We have 12 acres and 5 high tunnels into production. We use healthy crop rotation, spring fed wells for irrigation, and carefully selected, great tasting, produce varieties that grow well in our South Dakota soil. July 11th: Keya Wakpala Gardens 930am Centralwww.facebook.com/events/584808799824584Sicangu Food Sovereignty Initiative Mission StatementThe mission of the Sicangu Food Sovereignty Initiative (SFSI) to spark a prairie fire food movement to Indigenize the food system on the Rosebud Reservation.Food Sovereignty Initiative is a local foods project to create a modern Lakota food system that supports Tribal sovereignty and can feed the Sicangu Lakota Oyate. This geographic area can have extreme weather and presents environmental challenges for producing crops.The one-acre production and incubator farm uses soil health practices to provide food for the community and more importantly opportunities for anyone to learn about raising food. The project and community are growing quickly with produce harvest being over 5,000 pounds, an internship program, community Farmer's Markets, and more than 270 youth being engaged in the garden. ...
