KEYNOTE SPEAKER
This year’s keynote speaker is DRA member and lawyer Bruce Ellison. He will discuss when an issue or campaign can be won by legal, legislative, or community action, and the value of each different approach.
BREAKOUT SESSIONS
This year we will host three concurrent breakout sessions covering the following topics:
- Environmental Issues and Environmental Law
- CAFOs (By invitation only–contact rebeccat@dakotarural.org for more info)
- Sustaining Local Foods
Time for ad hoc discussions will also be provided.

CAFO (Invitation Only, Community Center side of building)
Members & allies will work on specifics around conditional use permit applications and strengthening ordinances.
Environmental (Gym side of building)
Discussion and strategy work on DRA’s major campaigns and issue work through the lense of organizing, legislative, and environmental law approaches.
Local Foods (Gym side of building)
Discussion and strategy work on DRA’s future local foods campaigns and the creation of a DRA Local Foods Committee.
4:00 – 5:00 – Ad Hoc Discussions
5:00 – 6:30 – Break & Setup for celebration
6:30 – 9:30 – Celebration! (local foods dinner, libations & music)

(located in the Public Parking Lot on the corner of Sioux Avenue and Coteau Street, 1 block east of downtown Pierre)

10:00 – 10:30 – Registration & Welcome
10:30 – 11:00 – Annual Update, Financials & Election of Officers
11:00 – 12:30 – Chapter & Committee Reports (9 minutes per chapter and committee, including question and answer time)
12:30 – 1:30 – Potluck Lunch graciously hosted by GOAL Pierre Chapter & Raffle Drawing
1:00 – 1:30 – Strategic Planning Presentation
1:30 – 2:00 – Updates to the Bylaws
2:00 – 3:30 – Resolutions
3:30 – Evaluation & Adjourn

Blocks of single and double rooms are reserved under “Dakota Rural Action” for a special group rate at the following hotels:

Deadline for the block rate is Nov. 1st for both hotels. Both hotels offer complimentary breakfast, pool, and are pet friendly.
RAFFLE FUNDRAISER
This year DRA will host a raffle fundraiser instead of a silent auction. We will focus on larger baskets valued at around $200 with specific themes. Each member is invited to donate one or more item for a basket, and chapters are also encouraged to collectively participate. Themes for baskets are as follows:
- Holiday Baking
- Gardening
- Crafting (Crafts & Arts)
- Camping/Wild Life
- New Baby
- Native American Food
- Home Brew/Wine Making/Fermentation Galore
- Get Away
- Family Game Night
- Biking
