Dakota Rural Action has long advocated for policies that will strengthen our local food system, support small- and mid-scale producers over corporations, and ensure families can access nourishing food. These priorities are impacted by the farm bill. Long overdue, the House draft of the farm bill moves to the chamber floor.

The entire House of Representatives will soon vote on the Farm Bill, H.R. 7567, also referred to as the “Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026” — but it falls woefully short of what small- and mid-sized farmers need in farm country right now.

Instead of addressing the widespread concerns of family-scale farmers – ensuring fair prices for farmers, improving credit access, addressing corporate land consolidation, and creating a trade environment that benefits producers – the House Farm Bill perpetuates an untenable status quo that enriches and empowers corporate agribusiness. The result is an accelerating farm crisis that continues to hollow out rural communities across the US.

We need to urge Members of Congress to vote against this bill so that the Agriculture Committees can go back to the drawing board and write a Farm Bill for farmers, not agribusiness. H.R. 7567 does not meet the moment, and we need a Farm Bill that addresses the current farm crisis head-on.

We urge you to contact Representative Dusty Johnson TODAY, before they vote on it, and demand that they vote “NO” on H.R. 7567.
