Contact Senators By 2pm TODAY to Vote NO
House Bill 1094 creates a registry for all (paid or unpaid) petition circulators, with their personal contact information available publicly.
It further says that anyone who circulates a ballot measure, constitutional amendment, or referendum petition–or solicits signatures in any way–must register as a circulator or face potential legal action.
That means if you sign a petition for a ballot measure you think is a good idea, the mere act of suggesting to anyone else that they ought to sign it opens you up for a Class 2 Misdemeanor charge.
This bill is scheduled to be heard on the Senate Floor this afternoon.
Contact your Senator to oppose this bad bill, which overly complicates the signature-gathering process, violates the privacy of South Dakota residents, and turns engaged citizens into criminals.
