Open House to Show Benefits & Uses of Local Passive and Solar Electric Systems

Garretson-SD-Energy-Tour

Jean and Michael Heisler, residents of Garretson, South Dakota are opening their home to the public for the second in a series of energy tours to be held around the state. The open house tour will be held Saturday, October 26, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm with talks by the homeowners and Dennis Williams, owner of Williams Power Systems, who installed the Heisler’s solar electric system.

Sponsored by Dakota Rural Action and the South Dakota Energy Fairness Initiative, the energy tours are designed to raise awareness of the benefits of solar energy, and the growing accessibility of the technology.

“My husband and I decided to build three years ago, and incorporating passive solar design into our home seemed responsible,” says Jean Heisler, homeowner and Dakota Rural Action member. “We added active solar panels this year as a commitment to solar technology because we believe that those of us who can afford it need to push the market forward to help bring prices down.”

Dakota Rural Action launched the South Dakota Energy Fairness Initiative on August 28. It is a push for a fair price for South Dakotans producing energy for their neighbors and the state through small solar and wind installations.
