Dr. John Ikerd

Dr. Ikerd is a visionary scholar and author who writes and speaks on issues related to sustainability with an emphasis on economics, agriculture, and rural communities. He is Professor Emeritus of Agricultural & Applied Economics at the University of Missouri Columbia College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources.

Dr. Ikerd’s many books include: Crisis & Opportunity: Sustainability in American Agriculture, The Essentials of Economic Sustainability, Small Farms Are Real Farms: Sustaining People Through Agriculture, and Revolution of the Middle.

Dr. Ikerd will address the potential socio-economic impact of CAFO expansion in Yankton County and across the state based on his many decades of research, as well as a positive way forward for agriculture in our rural communities.
