We believe South Dakotans should be able to develop and produce their own renewable energy. We have plentiful natural resources such as wind and solar that local citizens want to invest in. Unfortunately, unnecessary barriers create an unfair environment for South Dakotans to develop and produce their own energy.
We need YOUR help! Our Energy Committee wants to know where the state legislative representatives and candidates stand on this important issue.
Will you ask the state legislative candidates running in your district this one question?
“Do you support renewable energy in South Dakota, by supporting net metering?”
Then please let us know their response through this short form.
There are many ways to ask:
- At a candidate debate or forum
- At a fundraiser where a candidate will be
- Call them
- Send them an email
- If you see them on the street or local shop
- While they are in a parade
- South Dakota is one of only four states in the nation that does not have a net metering policy.
- Net metering has worked in states like Iowa for 30 years.
- Net metering encourages local investment in renewable energy.
- Net metering does not significantly raise electricity rates.
- Locally owned energy projects have a greater positive impact on communities than absentee owned projects.
- Net metering can benefit anyone, not just those with available land and money. Especially true with community net metering.
